I know I am one in a million but when it comes to Christmas music, I listen to it year round. I like to decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving. You know what they say about Christmas right? “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” I know I get more excited for Christmas than most people but in the midst of all the holiday songs and decorations, I have to stop myself and reflect on what truly makes this season so great.
On Sunday down in the student ministry we read the story of the shepherds being visited by the angels. What a beautiful yet terrifying sight it must have been. A heavenly host coming to the shepherds telling them of the birth of the Savior. I like to try and put myself in their shoes or imagine what it must have been like. Seeing and hearing about the miracle that is Jesus.
One of my favorite aspects of the angels coming to the shepherds first is that their job was not looked at as a very favorable one. Shepherds were not looked at as high class. If anything, they were looked at as low class. The first people that we read about that came to see Jesus after his birth were not the wealthy ones. What that tells me is that Jesus came not just for a specific class of people but he came for everyone.
This holiday season as we reflect on the birth of Jesus, let us be reminded that Jesus is not just for you. He came to seek and to save the lost. The shepherds were just minding their own business out in the field and got to experience the power of God. They visited the Savior of the world. The same Savior we have the chance to meet with and the same Savior we get to tell others about.
