Over the last two Sundays down in the basement we have begun looking through the Christmas story. We started with reading Isaiah 9:6-7. This passage shows us a prophecy telling of the coming savior. I found it fitting to start there because at one point in time Jesus was someone who people were hoping for. Then on Wednesday we read the stories of the encounters Mary and Joseph had with the angels. From there we read the birth story of Jesus. All while asking the question, How do we keep Jesus in Christmas when the world tells us differently?
I love getting to read the Christmas story every year and being reminded as to why we celebrate each year. Each year I read this beautiful story but do I really let it impact the way I go through the season? If we are being honest most of the time, no. This year I wanted to take a step back and truly reflect on the whole story. Start from the beginning when Jesus was just a hope. Then move to Jesus the savior who came.
Over this Christmas season what if we all took a step back and truly reflected on this story. What if we stopped caring so much about the gifts, the parties, the schedule and started looking at Christmas as a time to celebrate Jesus.
