Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
You don’t have to look far in the world today to find darkness. Turn on the T.V. or radio and listen to the news. Crimes abound; random shootings, horrific accidents, and even political news all reflect the darkness of our world. Personal lives can have darkness – sickness, heartache, divorce, children who have gone stray, financial struggles. And don’t even get me started on division amongst religious people!
All this darkness can quickly lead people to despair. But GOD! This week in VBS, we are focusing on the verse above: John 8:12. Jesus is the Light of the World. Light drives out darkness. Think about the last time the electricity went out, and it was pitch black in your house at night. As soon as you light one candle or turn on one flashlight, the darkness is pushed back. THAT is what Jesus does. He pushes back the darkness! Darknes can NOT exist where light is.
The sad thing is that many people don’t really know who Jesus is. They may think he is just someone that Christians go on and on about, but not really a big deal. They may think he was a good man, but no one of great importance. Some people think Jesus was a hoax and a liar. Many in our community do not know the real Jesus. This week at Illumination Station VBS, we are introducing children, teens and adults to Jesus, the promised, perfect, powerful Son of God who forgives our sins and pushes away the darkness.
It’s not too late to be a part of spreading the light and pushing out darkness. Join us for VBS each evening from 6:00-8:45pm. Invite your friends, your neighbors, your family…invite anyone you come across! I promise you that knowing Jesus is the absolute most important thing anyone will ever do! Let’s shine the light of Jesus through our community this week.
See you at VBS 2026: Illumination Station!
